Laughing Wolf Farm is seeking two interns to help with organic vegetable farming operations, grain production, and seed production Mondays through noon on Fridays and one Saturday per month for educational workshops. With approximately two acres in production, we focus primarily on seasonal vegetables, native crops, grains, and seeds. 2019 Markets will include a 20-member CSA, a local farmers market and wholesale accounts.

General Description: Laughing Wolf Farm is located in the beautiful Mancos Valley, seven miles from Mesa Verde National Park. This season we plan to have 20 varieties of beans, approximately 10 trials of grains and other assorted seed and vegetable crops, with a small hoop house for season extension. Laughing Wolf Farm also has chickens, several bee hives, and a small new orchard of heirloom apple trees.


Seed to Seed Internship:  20-week internship from June 1 through October with 1-2 weeks off for personal time.  The Seed to Seed Intern will focus on all aspects of seed growing operations and help with market farming operations at Laughing Wolf Farm starting with preparing and planting fields to developing seed and grain workshops, to seed harvesting and processing.  Seed research includes ongoing adaptation for drought resiliency of traditional crops, market crops, and grains. This is an intensive and comprehensive immersion and education in farming, and dedication to the full season is required. Work schedule is based on a 30-hour work week plus one Saturday a month.


Market Farm Internship:  10-week summer internship from June 1 through August 16 (with one week off for personal time) with a focus on all components of farm market operations including planting, managing, harvesting, processing, and selling crops for the farm’s CSA program, the wholesale cooperative, and farmers markets with a schedule of 30 hours per week plus one Saturday per month.

Skills Desired: Experience working on a production farm is helpful, but not required as this is the opportunity to learn! Rather a deep interest in learning about seeds and grains is desired. A strong work ethic is needed for long, hot days on the farm.


Educational Opportunities: Interns will learn aspects of running a small-scale, organically-grown vegetable farm, including managing a small CSA, as well as seed saving and small-scale ancient and heritage grain production.  Interns will also help with workshops held at Laughing Wolf Farm on Seed Saving and Grain Production.
